Gloria Justin is the chief executive officer of Swahili Coast Farms, an organization dedicated to addressing marine biodiversity loss, youth and women unemployment, and unsustainable oyster harvesting practices in coastal Kenya. Through the promotion of eco-friendly oyster farming, Swahili Coast Farms’ methods have led to a 30 percent increase in marine species diversity in Gazi, Kenya, aligning with vital coral restoration efforts. Gloria has created employment opportunities for young individuals, equipping them with valuable skills and leadership experiences while producing over 20,000 oysters monthly to support sustainable seafood markets and alleviate pressure on wild oyster populations. Her work has significantly increased local female involvement in the blue economy.
