Austin Shipman is the assistant director of the Undocumented Migration Project, where she plays a pivotal role in creating safe and humane processes for families searching for their missing loved ones while raising global awareness about the humanitarian crisis of migrants dying along the U.S.-Mexico border. She spearheaded the launch of Hostile Terrain 94, a participatory exhibition that aims to shed light on the human cost of US border enforcement strategies while amplifying the voices of those most impacted. The exhibition has been held in over 100 cities around the world. Austin is eager to use the Scholars program to create innovative solutions to sustainably advance her work and reimagine the nonprofit sector's approach to caring for and valuing frontline workers while making meaningful social change.
