In rural Vietnam, two wheels can change a girl’s future.
Too often, poverty, long journeys on foot or by boat, and unsafe roads keep girls out of school. The Rock-Paper-Scissors Children’s Fund (Opens in a new tab), supported by the Girls Opportunity Alliance, addresses transportation barriers by providing bikes to girls in Vietnam so that they can get to and from school more quickly and safely.
Through their Bikes for Girls program, the Rock-Paper-Scissors Children' s Fund has provided more than 1,500 bikes so girls can keep learning. Each girl receives a new bike, helmet, bicycle pump, and extra tire tubes sourced from local, family-owned shops.
For girls like Uyen, who previously woke up before dawn to make the long walk to school, this support makes a real difference. “Each day, I used to walk six miles back and forth. My bicycle helped me travel to school more quickly and more safely. It improved my attendance in class.”
By investing in girls' well-being and helping them overcome the barriers they face to pursue their dreams, we lay the foundation for a brighter future for us all.
