Chicago Philharmonic American Mavericks

The Chicago Philharmonic presents a special edition of their beloved Side-by-Side concert tradition, reimagined for the nation's 250th anniversary on the John Lewis Plaza. Professional musicians perform alongside community member musicians of all ages, selected through an open call, in this unique outdoor concert experience. The program features works by iconic American composers who have shaped the nation's musical landscape. This free performance, presented as part of Night Out in the Parks with the Chicago Park District, brings world-class orchestral music to the heart of Jackson Park.

Named in honor of late civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, the John Lewis Plaza is a lively and animated outdoor space that welcomes visitors to the Center. The Plaza–which serves as an entry point for the Forum, Museum, and Library buildings–is a dynamic hub built to foster the spirit of community that was central to the legacy and work of Congressman Lewis.
